A New Rod Created With The Kayak Angler In Mind

St. Croix is known for their high-quality fishing rods preferred by tournament anglers and pro guides. Focusing on one thing, making the best fishing rods, allows St. Croix to take design and materials to a high art.

So, we were stoked when St. Croix turned their experience and energy to a new line of kayak fishing rods. The Mojo Yak line incorporates St. Croix’s best innovations in a design that will fit a plastic boat. The only modification to the kayak rods is a shorter butt section that won’t interfere with a bulky lifevest.

The rods feature St. Croix’s Integrated Poly Curve technology using a smooth mandrel to create an even taper from butt to tip. The carbon reinforced graphite is strong to survive high-sticking without snapping the tip. Winn Grips, the same used on golf clubs, provides sticky traction on the handle and a foam foregrip improves sensitivity. High-quality Fuji reel seat and guides complete the top-of-the-line package with a price that is at the low-end of St. Croix’s offerings.

After making a few casts at the ICAST 2018 demo day, we were impressed with the fast action and sensitive touch. Even with the short butt, the rod stays perfectly balanced. This is a rod that can make a thousand casts in a day and still feel light and nimble. While we’re not sold on the short butt section, which reduces leverage on a big fish, we’re hooked on the quality materials and construction of the Mojo Yak.
