In the second episode of Hooked On Wild Waters, professional kayak angler Drew Gregory takes on the Florida Everglades in 2016. The Florida Everglades, and all of south Florida, is one of the wildest places to fish. The waters and banks are filled with alligators, but there the trophy fish outnumber the gators.

The Florida Everglades are full of all different species of fish, from bass to reds to snook. This water is a true test of an angler’s skills. Snook, for example, take a whole different skillset to land than bass. Snook have a thin membrane in their mouths, so you need a really light drag set on your reels so you don’t rip out the hook.

Drew meets up with Jackson Kayak pro staffer, Alex Tejeda to fish one of Alex’s secret Florida Everglades spots. They traverse through small mangrove tunnels in their Jackson kayaks, tunnels that only kayaks can get through, chasing the bait fish and hoping to land a trophy.

The Florida Everglades are alive like no other place in the United States. It’s like paddling the Amazon rainforest in your own back yard.

Drew throws a paddle-tail minnow imitation and lands a small snook as soon as the reach their fishing spot. The snook in this area are as big as they are elusive.

Watch as Drew and Alex sight fish for monster snook in this episode of Hooked On Wild Waters.
