Life at Rapid Media
At Rapid Media, we stand behind our mission and are passionate about what we do for the paddlesports industry. We are committed to inspiring participation by providing trusted, quality news, information and entertainment to millions of paddlers around the globe.
Our Offices
Rapid Media is headquartered in Palmer Rapids, Ontario with a second office in Revelstoke, British Columbia.
Palmer Rapids, Ontario
Headquarters is located in Palmer Rapids, which is a small rural community with a big heart. The cottagey office is on the river-right bank of the Madawaska River, five minutes downstream from class II-III+ Palmer Rapids, less than an hour from the mighty Ottawa River, and right in the middle between Algonquin Park and Calabogie Peaks ski resort. It’s only two hours to Ottawa and three hours to Toronto. Here we paddle, fish, ride bikes and ski regularly. And we go swimming from the dock at lunchtime… in the summer.
Revelstoke, British Columbia
Or you can work out of the new Revelstoke office tucked between the Monashee and Selkirk Mountain Ranges of southeastern British Columbia. Our desks here are 1.8 kilometres from Revelstoke Mountain Resort, where we ski and ride mountain bikes. We canoe and kayak on Lake Revelstoke and the Columbia River and chase river levels of the Illecillewaet, Jordan and Clearwater, to name-drop a few classics.
Diversity & Inclusion
Our company and team openly embrace diversity of race, ethnicity, class, gender, sexuality, ability and other facets of human identity. We aspire to be a media leader in leveraging the wealth of Ontario employees to grow our business and celebrate paddlesports. Our goal is to make sure all existing and future paddlers see themselves reflected in our digital content while connecting them with the resources they need to paddle forever.
We know saying we care about diversity isn’t enough. In 2014, we launched a gender equality initiative led by managing editor Kaydi Pyette. This initiative has included hiring six women into 11 of the salaried positions. The initiative has pushed forward more diverse and inclusive content, including more women featured in photography, women-focused stories, as well as working with more women content creators.
We believe every inclusive gesture makes a difference and have committed to real change for all types of diversity including:
Storytelling: By purposefully showcasing answers, solutions, advice and adventures in our content plans and decisions we are helping provide the keys to enrich our diversity and better reflect on what our company, community and world should be.
Representation: Showcase Diversity and Inclusion in text, photo and video content in efforts to normalize diversity in paddlesports.
Reach a wider audience by promoting content to diverse target audiences: Promotion costs may increase as these audiences are tougher to reach, but we can’t grow diversity without investing in it.
Hiring practises: Encourage applications from a wider range of applicants to attract a more diverse team of employees.
Outreach to business owners: Look for ways to align products and opportunities with businesses representing diverse owners and leadership teams.
